guniang are commonly used words in Ming and Qing. The meaning of "guniang" is changing at that age. And this change is effected by dialect or social demand, etc. So the change of "guniang" is not the same as the other relative word, meaning decreasing. The meaning of "guniang" is increasing in Ming and Qing. Before this age, "guniang" mainly means "father's sister"; but in this age, "guniang" also means "young woman" and "young lady". So how did these changes happen and develop? By looking the famous novel of Ming and Qing, we can find of "guniang" has not be-come a pure relative name. It still indicates several non-relationship in the middle of Qing. And "guniang", which is of respected function, has became the main use in that age.
