語彙的か補助的か : 「パストン家書簡集」におけるDare,Need,Ought (2) ゴイテキ カ ホジョテキ カ : パストンケ ショカンシュウ ニ オケル Dare Need Ought 2 Lexical or Auxiliary : Dare, Need, and Ought in the Paston Letters (2) 松瀬, 憲司 マツセ, ケンジ Matsuse, Kenji 835 grammaticalization intervening element development of the prepositional infinitive semantic transition syntactic attraction Matsuse (2009a) discussed the historical developments of the three minor verbs which can function both lexically and modal-auxiliarily in Present-Day English: i.e., dare, need, and ought, focusing on the situation of the late Middle English period in particular and utilizing the Pastons' 930 letters and documents which were compiled by Norman Davis and published in 1971 and 1976, plus their CD-ROM concordance issued in 2004. But they are only a part of the Paston corpus; we have another 121 papers belonging to it, which appeared in 2005, edited by Richard Beadle and Colin Richmond. The present study was conducted, based on those 121 papers which had not been included in Matsuse (2009a), and aimed to complement it with some additional data.
