The Mn(III)-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of 2-vinyl-1,3-diketone enols is described. The reaction gave unsaturated endoperoxides, 1,2-dioxin-3-ols, via resonated vinyldiketone radicals. The convenient and eco-friendly reaction was applied to the synthesis of natural phytohormone G3 and the analogs. In addition, the 1,2-dioxin-3-ols were easily transformed into the corresponding acetals. |
