| 内容記述 | In the 18th and early 19th centuries, some paintings of the American market depicted African-American women peddling on the streets. This study attempts to weave the independent lives of black slaves by considering the economic activities of these “black slave women in the market” as an important component of the “slave’s economy” and relating them to the problem of slave family formation. In the 18th century, black slaves actively sought partners through illegal visits outside plantations and formed families by mutual consent. However, the families of slaves were always worried about being separated, and one of the means of countering this was the “purchase of free status.” The black women in the market depicted in the paintings were women peddling to buy freedom for themselves, their husbands, and their children. | |||||||||||
