This study explores the awareness and attitudes of school teachers regarding support and accommodations for students with diverse educational needs, including disabilities, minority backgrounds, challenging family circumstances, and school refusal. A survey of 300 teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools focuses on their perspectives across five key areas: gender dysphoria, foreign students, developmental disabilities, school refusal, and challenging family environments like poverty or maltreatment. The results show notable differences in teachers' willingness and ability to provide accommodations across educational settings. While many teachers are willing to support foreign students and those with developmental disabilities, there is hesitancy regarding adjustments for gender dysphoria. Teachers' efforts are often hindered by a lack of resources, time, and systemic support within the school framework. High school teachers, in particular, are less likely to see the need for certain accommodations compared to their elementary counterparts, suggesting the importance of targeted training and resources for providing support within regular classrooms at higher levels. Overall, while teachers' awareness of diverse educational needs is increasing, more efforts are required to provide them with the resources and understanding necessary to offer comprehensive support within regular classroom settings. |
