| 内容記述 | Abstract: Background and Objective: With an increasing number of parents having children with developmental disabilities, the extended waiting period for initial diagnosis of developmental disabilities is imposing problems. Therefore, establishing a new outpatient management method with case prioritization is in immediate demand. In addition, several studies demonstrated that mothers of children with developmental disabilities exhibit a higher rate of mental instabilities compared to mothers of healthy children. Hence, this study aims to identify promoting and inhibiting factors for mother's transition from ordinary parent to a mother of a child with developmental disabilities without intellectual impairment, thereby contributing to the establishment of a community support system to improve quality of life of mothers of children with developmental disabilities. Methods: Qualitative inductive analysis were conducted according to the conceptual framework of Meleis's transition theory on the narratives obtained through semi-structured interviews with mothers of children with developmental disabilities. Results: From 252 narratives corresponding to the conceptual framework of transition theory, 42 categories were extracted. Conclusion: Advising mothers to visit doctors to diagnose their children should not be a support goal but a form of [Responsive support tailored to each individual] in a series of continuous support, if we are to promote necessary transition should occur. By helping mothers in this transition, we can support them to reach the goal of [Utilizing experiences], [Being satisfied with the environment], and [Enjoying life]. |
