| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to further our understanding of the intellectual context surrounding the editing of the Jinjō Shōgaku-Shōka (Songs for Elementary Students) completed in June 1914. To that end, this paper analyzes the “Exegesis for Imperial Rescript of 1908 (Boshin Shōsho)” by Yuhara Motoichi who was the president of Tokyo Music School and chief editor of the above compilation. The Imperial Rescript of 1908 promulgated on October 13, 1908 after the Russo-Japanese War is also called the “Kinken (勤倹: diligence and frugality) Shōsho”. The virtue of diligence and frugality were common themes within Shōsho and Shōka. For example, a song “Ninomiya Kinjiro” for the second grade symbolized this. However, the facts are not so simple. The main points of the commentary book for Imperial Rescript of 1908 which Yuhara published on May 10, 1909 are the idea of international coordination, the establishment of social policy, and the pursuit of utilitarianism. In other words, he was unrelated to narrow-minded nationalism which was popular at the time and did not respect any personal effort which is based on Confucian morality. | |||||||||||
