Sakurajima volcano, which is active daily, will become good teaching material. The volcano has been continuously active eruptive activity for 70 years since the Minamidake eruption in October 1955. Approximately 3,600 people reside on Sakurajima Island, and about 590,000 people in Kagoshima City, located roughly 4 km west across the Kagoshima-bay, coexist with the volcano. Therefore, the observation of volcanic activity and the atmospheric environment regarding Sakurajima volcano has been enhanced. We have installed fixed-point observation cameras for Sakurajima's volcanic plumes in Tarumizu City and Kagoshima City since 2006.
