Conophylline comprises two indole units\nsegmented via a central dihydrofuran. Umezawa et al. found that it shows anti-diabetic activity with\nmorphological change by the screening of compounds that induce insulin expression in pancreatic\nacinar carcinoma AR42J cells. They also disclosed that the central dihydrofuran seemed crucial for\nthis activity.
