Keywords such as complex multiethnic country, mountainous country, swidden agriculture and the lack of basic infrastructures are often used as the representation of Lao's characteristics. For example, \"swidden agriculture is practiced by the ethnic minorities in the mountainous area where infrastructure maintenance is insufficient\" is the widely used description of socio-economic conditions activities of the Laos.
