Local buckling has significant effects on both post-buckling compressive and straightening-out tensile envelops during cyclic loading. Although the inelastic cyclic behavior of struts has been the subject of intensive study, its interactions with local buckling still remain to be identified more clearly. A point-hinge approach incorporating both inelastic and post-local buckling deformations was devised to calculate buckling, post-buckling, and inelastic tensile hysteretic envelops of tubular struts under reversed load. This method of analysis was found to be capable of simulating experimental results satisfactorily.
