Many\nexperiments found that shadowing performance was influenced by the semantic\nrelation between shadowed and not-shadowed information，but there was no\nmemory for the latter after the shadowing task. These facts were interpreted\nas foUows. Every information receives a simple sematic analysis with the aid\nof long-term memory without attention, and is retained in short-term memory，\nbut not transformed into long-term memory. Attention plays a part in relating\nparticular information retained in short-term memory with other information\nretained similarly at the moment and long-term memory, and thus transforming\nselectively only that into long-term memory. In this way, it was confirmed\nthat selective attention and memory is closely connected. This view is almost\nin accordance with Norman's late selection model. In addition, some problems\nare discussed in relation to the shadowing technique.
