| 内容記述 | The largest bone of contention in respect to quantifiers (henceforth, abbreviated form Q is sometimes used) has been their source. Presently the views towards this problem fall into two camps. One is the view that their source is in Noun Phrases, and then some quantifiers are moved outside the NPs by Quantifier Postposing (henceforth, QP). The other is that quantifiers are generated in due positions (for instance, in part of NPs or in Adverb) in base. According to the latter view, it follows that quantifiers have two distinct functions such as adjectivals and adverbials. In this paper, various arguments about QP will be reviewed and criticized. We shall focus on the question, "Is QP really possible?" |
