| 内容記述 | To elucidate the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), I measured ROS produced in lymphocytes of patients with SLE by flow cytometry method. In SLE lymphocytes, significant increase of ROS were observed in B cells and natural killer (NK) cells in comparison with ones in lymphocytes of healthy persons. In the other subsets of lymphocytes, level of ROS were also upward tendency in SLE. Inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta, tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interferon gamma did not concern with high level of ROS in SLE. There was nothing wrong with suppressor function of monocytes on ROS production. Significant positive correlation was observed between ROS production and expression of cell adhesion molecule CD29 in SLE. Therefore lymphocytes which infiltrate into organs by adhesion to endothelial cells must have high level of ROS. I speculate that high level of ROS produced in lymphocytes is related with autoantibody production in B cells and malfunction on elimination of autoreactive cells in NK cells, and that these abnormalities lead to onset and aggravation of SLE. | |||||
