| 内容記述 | In late Me, the general tendency is that the Compound Reflexive (with self) is employed more often than the Simple Reflexive (without self) with a frequency of 56.1% for the former and 43.9% for the latter (Ogura 1987). In Chaucer's prose, however, the Simple Reflexive is overwhelmingly dominant, occupying 81%. In Chaucer, reflexive verbs and intransitive verbs almost always co-occur with the Simple Reflexive, while a considerable number of transitive verbs take both reflexives. Hence, it can be said that in Chaucer the Compound Reflexive functions mainly with transitive verbs. | |||||
