Recombinant hepatitis B (HB) vaccine is generally performed, and the vaccine is known to be highly effective. Nevertheless, there are some percentage of no-responders or low-responders against HB vaccine. To clarify the immunological background in poor responders, antibodies against EB virus and 3 other viral antigens including herpes simplex, cytomegalovirus and rubella were measured on 31 female hospital personnels and 26 female college students injected with HB vaccine three times. Twenty two (71.0%) hospital personal vaccineers became HBs antibody positive,4 (12.9%) vaccineers showed a weak reactivity and 5 (16.1%) vaccineers were HBs antibody negative. Twenty one (80.8%) college student vaccineers became HBs antibody positive, and 5 (19.2%) vaccineers were HBs negative. There were no apparent differences in the frequency of the antibodies to EBV and 3 other viral anti-gens between poor responders and responders against HB vaccine. The antibody titers to EBV and other viral antigens suggest that there may be no decrease of B-cell mediated immunity in the poor responders. |
