Chen and Makizume Etsuko pointed out that the novel represents tragedy caused by a family system and an old social system. In my opinion, however, Manshu mixes classical literature, his own ideals, and Western knowledge to transform Chinese love stories into tragedies which show agape love. In this way, he has created a new model of love story. This novel is a pioneer of love story in Chinese modern literature.},
