An investigation was done, in July 1990, about the Formation of Independent Action at Home of the students of senior high school 2nd and elementary school 6th grade students in Kumamoto and Kagoshima. The results were as follows; (1) "Controllable Behavior" : Knowledge and skills learned in the elementary school were practiced half as much by senior high students. Girls were much better than boys in skills like cooking and sewing. (2) "Awareness of necessity" : High school students were good at daily life experiences, but in domestic skills, they were not so good. Senior high school students were slightly less skillful than elementary students. High school girls were active in home making activities more than boys. Boys could cook only fast foods, but girls had many more skills. (3) "Willingness to act": Senior high school students were less positive than elementary school students. High school girls were more eager than senior high school boys. It is clear that girls have become cooperative in making the home better. (4) In conclusion, the results concerning independent action show that senior high school students were less active than elementary school students. |
