| 内容記述 | Despite the fact that the word “meaning” is often employed in the definition of spirituality in English literature, no article is found which refers to the relationship between meaning and spirituality in Japanese. This essay mentions the relationship between the two. The author agrees with Dr. William Breitbart’s view of spirituality whose main components are faith and meaning. In addition, the author insists that the definition of meaning in relation to spirituality is its relationship with other events, according to Dr, Alastair J. Cunningham, and he asserts that the core of three synonymous concepts, coping, resilience, and spirituality is meaning. Moreover, he regards the essence of meaning in palliative care is what Viktor Frankl calls “meaning”. That is, creative values, experiential values and attitudinal values. He suggests that Dr. Hisayuki Murata’s famous definition of spiritual pain:“pain caused by extinction of the being and the meaning of the self” be changed to “for individuals, unbearable meaninglessness and its relevant pains for part or all of their lives.”Lastly he briefly introduces Dr. Breitbart’s “meaning-centered group psychotherapy”and states that in Japan as well it is interesting that we pay attention to“meaning”in helping professionals. | |||||||||||
