Researchers and practitioners of community development work on rebuilding connections that were lost since the sharp economic growth of the late 20th century. To intervene such problems, communication is key and in fact components of communication have been intentionally utilized in manny community development activities. However, due to the difficulty in defining "communication," there is no Japanese literature that inductively assessed the roles of communication in community development practices. The purpose of this paper was to discuss the roles of communication in community development by showcasing the project that has focused on child and community welfare in progress in the eastern part of Kumamoto City.},
