However, the effects of medical advancement allowing longer lives have been more negative than positive. People are living longer or dying later, but in pain. Euthanasia and physician-assisted death have been discussed in-depth in some countries but unfortunately, the latter has been neglected in Japan.The purpose of this paper is therefore, to highlight the need for such discussions. In doing so, this paper will identify the underlying intentions of the "right to die" assertions and how they are related to physician-assisted suicide.
