内容記述 | Three research publications of Riddell, S.(2001, 2005, 2012)regarding the intersection of disability, gender, and education, were reported, and suggestions from these articles were presented by the author. The first paper, published in 2001, was about life-long learning for people with learning difficulties. The findings of the paper demonstrated that even though broad commonalities such as deprivation and economic marginalization in the lives of people with learning difficulties? which transcend divisions of gender and social class?were found, there were significant differences between case studies in relation to gender. The second paper, published in 2005, was on gender and disability in education. The findings of the paper showed, based on Scottish government statistics, that marginalization occurred more among non-normative disability categories, and especially in boys. It also focused on disabled students in higher education and indicated that they were more likely to be from a higher social class than students with learning difficulties in elementary/secondary schools, suggesting that disability and marginalization may not be directly related. The topic of the third paper, published in 2012, was on gender and deprivation of students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD). The findings of the paper indicated that even after the new legislation passed and the special educational concept was replaced by the over-arching category of additional support needs (ASN), the SEBD or non-normative category accounted for many students identified as having ASN. It also suggested that these students were more at risk of exclusion from school. Finally, the author suggested three points, which were drawn from S. Riddell's works, to be used as insight for Japanese educators who have experienced rapidly changing and somewhat confusing cirucmstances subsequent to special needs educational reform implemted in 2007. |
