The objective of this paper is to introduce performance-based assessment into home economics classes on consumer life and behavior in Japanese elementary schools, and to examine the process of introducing performance-based assessment and the potentialities and/or actual tasks conducted in conjunction with it. To achieve this objective, we gave lessons on consumer life and behavior to fifth grade students of Japanese elementary schools, introducing performance-based assessment with the last lesson. After these lessons, we analyzed and assessed studentsʼ descriptions.
