This study considers the social participation of disabled persons from the standpoint of consciousness, which is expected to proceed via the progress of citizen's understanding of disabled persons and the removal of social barriers. This study goes on to show that there already exist significant gaps amongst disabled persons in terms of their interests for participating in various sectors and poses the question as to whether these are indeed a positive means for increasing their own social capital or for their own life.
