| 内容記述 | This paper focuses on the conceptual role of "the intrinsic value" of nature in "environmental pragmatism", and explores the standpoints of three authors, Andrew Light, Eric Katz, and Anthony Weston, whose papers appear in the collection, Environmental Pragmatism (1996). Weston argues against any "intrinsic value" of nature, and affirms the existence of numerous values in the natural world; while Katz holds that we should wstablish a universal "intrinsic value" of nature, rather than depending on accidental factors, concluding that environmental ethics cannot be in incorporated into progmatism. Light argues that these two outlooks differ in their different understandings of the role of 'intrinsic value', and in this respect, advances methodological environmental pragmatism as a valuable element of environmental pragmatism. In this light, the study investigates how the concept of the intrinsic value of nature can contribute to opening the prospect on environmental pragmatism in the evolution of conventional environmental ethics into environmental pragmatism. | |||||||||||
