| 内容記述 | Naturalized as a Japanese citizen, famous for his Kwaidan and his profound understanding of Japanese culture, Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904) was deeply loved by the Japanese people. Many articles are written every year from various viewpoints. Especially in the comparative literature domain Hearn is an important topic in Japan. This short essay investigates Hearn’s works on the student-teacher relationship by comparing them with the works of Amicis and Feng Zikai. Lafcadio Hearn spent most of his time in Japan as a teacher. He wrote several essays about Japanese school life. After his death, his pupil Tanabe Ryuji 田部隆次(1875-1957) published these essays and others in 1920. The book was soon re-edited as the first volume of Koizumi Yakumo Bunshu- 小泉八雲文集 (Selected Works of Lafcadio Hearn). １ Chinese writer and painter Feng Zikai 豊子愷 (1898-1975) mentioned two titles of 小泉八雲文集 in his literary works, and we can recognize the influence of Hearn. ２ So, there is a possibility Feng caught sight of this title too. Accordingly, the attempt at a comparative examination should be profitable. Furthermore, it is very interesting that the literature in diaries of Hearn and Feng has influenced by Cuore (1886). Hearn mentioned Cuore in his essay, while Feng was the illustrator of the Chinese translation of Cuore. Therfore, through a comparison of these books, the characteristics of each will be clarified, and the similarity of Hearn and Feng confirmed. |
