| 内容記述 | The present study was undertaken to investigate the images 475 university students had of mentally ill people and their level of awareness about mental illness and available social resources in relation to the students' history of education, and whether they had ever experienced any contact with such people. The study revealed that the university students surveyed often had positive images of mentally ill patients. Female students were significantly more likely to have such positive images than male students (p<0.01). When the images were analyzed in relation to the history of education and experiences of contacts with the mentally ill, the images were more favorable among the education + experience of contact group and the experience of contact group than among the group that had only had education. The level of awareness about mental illnesses was significantly higher among the students who had experienced contacts than among those who had received education but had experienced no contact (p<0.05). On the whole, there was little recognition of the availability of social resources. Slightly higher than 70% of the surveyed students were aware of the necessity of school education and thought that such education and opportunities to contact people with mental illnesses should begin in elementary school. | |||||
