| 内容記述 | This paper discusses the cultural background centering around the "Teikanzu" (lit. Illustration of the Didactic Stories for Emperors of ancient China) formed in the Early Edo Period. In particular, it aims to examine the situation of Zen Buddhism and Confucianism in the time period from the end of the Medieval Period to the Early Edo Period, as well as "the concept of Tian (lit. Heaven)" that may underlie in the backgroud of the Teikanzu. In addition, this paper discusses the use of the Teikanzu by presenting documentary material of the Soma-han Clan (a feudal domain). Although the "Teikanzu" was been created in the Early Edo Period, this paper affirmed that same illustrative subjects as those in the didactic stories included in the "Teikanzusetsu" (Ch. Dijian Tushuo) already existed in the Medieval Period. In doing so, this paper indicates the probability that the "Teikanzu" was visually represented and created with the intent of changing the academic foundation from Zen Buddhism to Confucianism at the turning point of the Medieval Period to the Early Modern Period, and thereby to enable the penetration of Confucianism into the Japanese society. Furthermore, as an example of a sovereign-subject relationship, this paper analyzes documentary material of the Soma-han Clan through a method used in prior research, and concludes that, in the Early Edo Preiod, the "Teikanzu" was created as paintings that visually represent the sovereign-subject relationship described in the Confucian scriptures. | |||||
