| 内容記述 | In this study, the experiences and needs of children with hearing impairments and their families during the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes were examined through interviews with three mothers. It was found that parents meticulously assessed the day-by-day changing situation around them, taking steps to secure batteries and identify sources of electricity to ensure functioning of hearing aids/cochlear implants for their children. At the same time, parents faced difficulties in providing information and explaining the meaning of new wards related to the disaster to their children under such emergency conditions. This may have caused increased stress for children with hearing impairments who faced disaster situations. It was suggested (1) one ordinary school be named a base for disaster management for students in the area (and not a school for the deaf), (2) educational materials for children with hearing impairments to help them better understand the disaster situations, and (3) assistance provided by professionals and volunteers who are out of the disaster-affected areas, should be developed. | |||||||||||
