| 内容記述 | Japanese elementary school teachers are tasked with teaching the newly implemented English Activity classes “experientially,” necessitating a considerable amount of communication in English. Given the generally low level of English proficiency, the question arises as to how teachers are using English and how they are managing to get their messages across. This study investigated the use of English in a class conducted by a Japanese classroom teacher and an ALT. It was found that the classroom teacher used English primarily for management purposes, with solicits and reactions dominating communicative moves. Results show that messages in English, from either teacher, were most often clarified with the addition of an additional medium, usually gestures. | |||||||
