| 内容記述 | The Mountainous Region of Mainland Southeast Asia has been drawn attention from the scholars recently, and research results of Laos, which is used to be called "the forgotten country", are also being accumulated gradually. Keywords such as complex multiethnic country, mountainous country, swidden agriculture and the lack of basic infrastructures are often used as the representation of Lao's characteristics. For example, "swidden agriculture is practiced by the ethnic minorities in the mountainous area where infrastructure maintenance is insufficient" is the widely used description of socio-economic conditions activities of the Laos. Quantitive data concerning interrelation between swidden agriculture, the ethnic minorities, infrastructure maintenance and the mountainous area is not publicized in scientific papers. The purpose of this paper is to provide data for discussing agricultural forms of Laos and information for comparing Laos to other regions in the Mountainous Region of Mainland Southeast Asia, and also to examine availability of these data by organizing quantitive data on the geographical configuration, infrastructure, ethnic characteristics and agricultural forms. |
