| 内容記述 | The Chinese verb gei, "to give", is known to have various usages, many of which are more functional than lexical, to the extent that they are often analysed as a preposition devoid of its semantic content as a verb. This paper focuses on the ambiguity of the object "N2" of gei in the construction type "N1+gei+N2+V+N3". "N2" is interpreted as the recipient of "N3(DO)" if the latter's transfer is implied, otherwise as the recipient of the effect of the event denoted by "V+N3", which on the whole may be regarded as the object of 'giving' denoted by gei. The syntactic distribution of the grammatical elements preceding and following the verb in both constructions is shown to indicate that the sequence of "gei+N+V" can be analysed as a verb complex in line with the "ba+N+V" construction with the preposed object. |
